# Delete Payment Method

DELETE 
/customers/:id/payment-methods/:tokenId
```

Deletes one of a customer's saved payment methods.

**Refused while it is still billing**:

The request fails with `409` when a subscription that is `ACTIVE`, `TRIALING`, `PAUSED` or `PAST_DUE` is charging this payment method. Cancel or move that subscription first.

**If it was the default**:

Deleting the customer's `defaultTokenId` clears it, rather than silently moving the default to another card. While the customer has no default, a payment sending `useDefaultPaymentMethod` is rejected.

The field does not stay empty for good: MONEI fills an empty default with the next reusable payment method the customer saves, the same rule that set the first one. Set `defaultTokenId` yourself if you need to choose which.
