Using the MONEI Pay app
MONEI Pay turns any smartphone into a payment terminal. Accept in-person payments with Tap to Pay (contactless cards and on the phone itself), QR codes, Bizum, and payment requests — no extra POS hardware. For what MONEI Pay is and which devices it supports, see the overview.
This page covers everything you do in the app. For app-to-app integration with native SDKs, see Developer.
Getting started
MONEI Pay runs on your existing MONEI account. Once your account is approved for online payments, in-person payments are enabled automatically — no separate signup.
- Sign up for MONEI and complete account setup and approval. New to MONEI? See how to get started.
- Install MONEI Pay on the device that will accept payments, or use the web app at pay.monei.com.
- Sign in with your MONEI account credentials.
Once approved you can accept Tap to Pay, QR code, and Bizum or payment-request payments right away.
Download and sign in
Use the app from any device by going to pay.monei.com and signing in with your MONEI credentials. To install the mobile app:
The web app accepts QR and payment-request payments in any browser; Tap to Pay requires the mobile app.
The home screen
After signing in you land on your store's home screen. At the top you see today's gross volume and payment count, followed by your most recent payments. Tap Create payment to take a new payment, Show all payments to view history, or the gear icon to open settings.
Create a payment
- On the home screen, tap Create payment.
- Enter the amount on the keypad. Optionally tap Add info to attach a note or customer details.
- Choose how to collect the payment:
Accept Tap to Pay
Tap to Pay accepts contactless cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other digital wallets directly on your phone — no card reader or dongle.
- Create a payment and enter the amount.
- Tap Tap to Pay.
- The customer holds their card or phone near the top of your device until the payment confirms.
The first time you use it:
- On iPhone, MONEI Pay uses Tap to Pay on iPhone. Tap Enable Tap to Pay and accept Apple's terms of service once. Requires iPhone XS or later on iOS 17.4+.
- On Android, you may be prompted to install a free companion app that powers Tap to Pay in the background — just install it, no login or setup needed. Requires an -capable device.
If your device doesn't support Tap to Pay, the option is hidden — use QR codes or payment requests instead.
Accept QR code payments
With MONEI QR you generate a digital QR code from your device that the customer scans to pay — no physical QR codes or POS hardware needed.
- Tap Create payment, enter the amount, and choose QR.
- Tap Show QR Code to display the code.
- The customer scans it and pays from their phone.
You can also share the same payment as a Pay By Link message: tap the share icon to copy the link and send it via WhatsApp, email, or SMS — useful when the customer isn't physically present.
Bizum and payment requests
Instead of having the customer scan a QR code or tap a card, send the charge straight to their phone:
- Tap Create payment, enter the amount, and choose Bizum or Request payment.
- Enter the customer's mobile phone number.
- Tap Request payment.
If the number is registered with Bizum, the customer gets a notification to confirm the payment in their banking app. Otherwise they receive a payment link via WhatsApp (or SMS if WhatsApp is unavailable).
Issue refunds
You can issue full and partial refunds in the app. Open MONEI Pay or sign in to pay.monei.com.
If you also use MONEI for e-commerce, those transactions appear in the app too. For e-commerce refunds, follow these instructions instead.
- Tap Show all payments to see recent transactions.
- Select the payment to refund.
- Tap the three dots (top-right) and select Refund payment.
- Tap Refund for the full amount, or enter a smaller amount for a Partial Refund.
A confirmation appears once the refund is processed.
Send digital receipts
After a successful payment, open the payment and tap Send Payment Receipt to email the customer a receipt. Customers can also enter their email while paying to receive one automatically.
Secure the app with a PIN
Protect the app on shared or staff devices with a passcode and biometrics:
- Set a 4-digit PIN to lock MONEI Pay.
- Unlock with Face ID or your device's biometrics instead of typing the PIN.
- After several incorrect attempts the app locks for security — open the MONEI Dashboard if you're locked out.
Configure payment methods
Because you go through the regular onboarding process, credit cards and digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay are enabled by default. To activate Bizum or configure additional methods, see how to configure payment methods.
Add users and multiple stores
Equip your staff so they can accept payments from any location:
- In your main dashboard, go to Settings → Authorized users.
- Add users with read-and-write or admin access.
- They can then sign in at pay.monei.com and create transactions on the go.
If you operate more than one location, register, or staff member, bind each user to a store or when you add them. Payments that user takes in MONEI Pay are then tagged automatically with that store and point of sale, so you can report on each one separately. See Managing stores and points of sale for how grouping, reporting, and per-store work.
Customize the appearance
Add your logo and brand colors to the app and QR payment codes — the same way you customize your checkout page.
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Branding:
- The logo appears in the center of the QR payment code and as the payment-page icon.
- The primary color is used for the app and the payment page.
Test your account
Sign in at pay.monei.com or in the app, then run a test by creating a payment, paying it yourself, and refunding it.
Common questions
Can I assign fixed prices to QR codes?
Yes. Create or edit a QR code point of sale in Dashboard → Settings → Points of Sale, choose the fixed amount payment flow, and set the amount and currency. See QR code payments for the full setup.
Can customers enter the payment amount after scanning a QR code?
Yes. Use a QR code point of sale with the manual amount payment flow. The customer scans the permanent QR code, enters the amount, and completes the payment without staff entering the amount first.
