MONEI Flex
MONEI Flex lets your Spanish customers split a card purchase into monthly installments — decided instantly at checkout, with no paperwork and no separate application. The customer's own bank finances the purchase, so you're paid the full amount upfront and take on no credit risk.
MONEI Flex is our name for PlazoX, the buy now, pay later (BNPL) service that Spanish banks already run on the cards they issue. MONEI connects to it directly, so you don't sign a separate financing contract and your customers don't sign up for anything — it works with the cards they already carry.
That's also what they see at checkout. The plans appear under the names their bank uses: PlazoX for standard installments and PlazoX cero for the interest-free option. If a customer recognizes PlazoX from their own bank, this is the same thing.
How it works
When a customer pays by card, MONEI checks whether their bank offers installments for that card and amount. If it does, the customer chooses how to pay — in full, or split into monthly installments — and confirms. Their bank approves it in seconds. You receive the full purchase amount in your next settlement, exactly like a regular card sale.
Payment options
Customers can choose between two installment types, depending on what their bank offers:
- Interest-free (3 months). The customer splits the purchase into 3 monthly payments at no extra cost — no interest and no fees. They pay exactly the purchase price.
- Standard (3, 6, 9, or 12 months). The customer splits the purchase over 3, 6, 9, or 12 months under the terms of their card agreement. The interest rate and any fees set by their bank are shown before they confirm. The maximum term is 12 months.
The available terms are returned by the customer's bank at checkout, so the exact options vary by bank and card.
Availability
MONEI Flex is available in Spain, for payments in euros (EUR) made with credit or debit cards issued by Spanish banks. It applies to purchases of €60 or more, and there is no maximum. To raise the minimum for your store, up to €500, contact our Support Team.
Customers can use MONEI Flex when their card is issued by a participating Spanish bank, including BBVA, Santander, Bankinter, Kutxabank, Unicaja, Ibercaja, Cajamar, Caja Rural, Openbank, Bankintercard, Iberia Cards, Santander Consumer Finance, Arquia Banca, Caja Ingenieros, Eurocaja Rural, and Cajalmendralejo.
Activation
MONEI Flex isn't enabled by default. To start offering it, contact our Support Team to request activation for your account. Once it's enabled, eligible card payments automatically show installment options at checkout.
Fees
MONEI Flex adds 2.4% to your standard card transaction fee, only on sales the customer splits into installments. If the customer pays in full, you pay only the standard card fee. If you refund a sale that was split into installments, the refunded amount is deducted from the amount the 2.4% applies to. You're settled the full purchase amount upfront and take on no credit risk — the customer's bank carries the financing. For current rates, see Pricing.
Refunds and payouts
MONEI Flex payments are settled and refunded like regular card payments. You're paid the full purchase amount into the IBAN on your MONEI account, and you can refund a payment from your MONEI Dashboard. The customer's installment plan is then adjusted by their bank.
Integration
MONEI Flex works in every MONEI integration and requires no extra code. The plan choice is part of the 3D Secure step: wherever your checkout shows 3D Secure, the customer chooses a plan there, on a MONEI page. This includes the Hosted Payment Page, a custom checkout, MONEI Onsite and MONEI Payments on Shopify, and the plugins for WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Adobe Commerce, commercetools, Sylius, Saleor, Medusa and Wix. Once MONEI Flex is activated for your account, eligible card payments show the installment options automatically.
In a custom checkout, the plan choice opens in the same popup as 3D Secure. Load monei.js from js.monei.com/v3/monei.js, or install @monei-js/components 2.x from npm. The older v2 script doesn't show the plan choice — see the migration guide.
Common questions
Who pays the interest on MONEI Flex installments?
For interest-free installments (3 months), no one pays interest — the customer pays exactly the purchase price. For standard installments (3, 6, 9, or 12 months), the customer pays the interest and any fees set by their bank, shown before they confirm. Either way, you receive the full purchase amount upfront.
Do I take on any risk if the customer doesn't keep paying?
No. The customer's bank finances the installments and carries the credit risk. You're settled the full purchase amount like a normal card sale, regardless of how the customer chooses to pay it back.
Which customers can use MONEI Flex?
Customers paying with a credit or debit card issued by a Spanish bank that offers installments, for purchases of €60 or more in euros. The available plans are decided by the customer's bank at checkout, so options vary by bank and card.
How do customers know MONEI Flex is available?
When they pay by card, eligible customers see the MONEI Flex option to split their payment into monthly installments. If their card or bank doesn't offer installments for the purchase, they simply pay in full as usual.
Is MONEI Flex the same as PlazoX?
Yes. PlazoX is the installment service Spanish banks offer on their own cards, and MONEI Flex is how you accept it. Your customers see the familiar PlazoX and PlazoX cero names at checkout, and their bank applies the terms from their card agreement. On your side there's nothing extra to sign or integrate — see Activation.
Does the customer have to pay in installments?
No. Installments are always optional — the checkout also offers Pay in full (a single payment today). The customer chooses how to pay, and either way you're settled the full amount. The 2.4% MONEI Flex fee applies only when the customer splits the payment into installments — see Fees.
