# Multibanco

Ninety percent of consumers in Portugal have a [Multibanco](https://monei.com/payment-methods/multibanco/) debit card, making it Portugal's most used local payment method. Shoppers can pay immediately through their online banking app or within seven days at one of the 13,000 Multibanco ATMs across Portugal.

At checkout, the customer chooses Multibanco and either authorizes the transaction via their online banking app or chooses to receive a code that lets them pay at any Multibanco ATM within seven days. You and your customer are both notified once the payment has been completed.

## Availability[](#availability "Direct link to Availability")

Multibanco is a popular local payment method in Portugal, but you don't have to operate your business from Portugal to accept it. Add it to your Spanish e-commerce store to accept [cross-border payments](https://monei.com/blog/cross-border-ecommerce/) and reach more customers.

## Activation[](#activation "Direct link to Activation")

If you haven't already joined MONEI, [register here](https://dashboard.monei.com/signup), complete all onboarding steps, and wait until your account is approved.

Then [contact our Support Team](https://support.monei.com/hc/requests/new) to configure Multibanco in your account. It takes approximately 1-2 working days to enable it.

After activation, Multibanco is available in all integrations and shows up on your payment page.

note

A one-time **€10** setup fee (VAT-exempt) applies the first time you use Multibanco or MB WAY — charged once per merchant (not per method) by the payment processor and deducted from your first settlement.

## Limits[](#limits "Direct link to Limits")

The minimum Multibanco transaction amount is €1 and the maximum amount is €2,500.

## Fees[](#fees "Direct link to Fees")

Multibanco payments are charged a flat **2.10% + €0.65** per successful transaction. For current pricing, see [MONEI fees](https://docs.monei.com/manage-account/monei-fees/.md).

This is an **all-in rate**: part of it is an **acquiring fee** charged by the payment processor and deducted directly from your settlements, and the rest is MONEI's commission billed on your weekly invoice. A **€0.10** fee per refund is likewise deducted from your settlements, not billed by MONEI.

## Refunds[](#refunds "Direct link to Refunds")

You can issue full or partial refunds via Multibanco for up to **13 months** after the transaction. Each refund is charged a flat **€0.10** acquiring fee, deducted from your settlements.

## Integration[](#integration "Direct link to Integration")

Multibanco is an asynchronous, voucher-based payment method. Accept it using the [Hosted Payment Page](https://docs.monei.com/integrations/use-prebuilt-payment-page/.md). Once activated, Multibanco appears automatically on your payment page — no extra configuration is needed.

When the customer selects Multibanco, they authorize the transaction in their online banking app or receive a code to pay at a Multibanco ATM within seven days. You and your customer are notified once the payment has been completed.
