What are payment statuses and what do they mean?

The following is a list of different payment statuses you may see in your MONEI dashboard. Consult this list for possible response/error payment codes our API can return.

Payment status list

Here's an overview of what each status means in your dashboard:

• Started. The payment is being processed and is awaiting completion.
• Pending processing. The payment was submitted to the processor and is awaiting confirmation.
• Succeeded. The payment was successfully processed and the funds were .
• Uncaptured. The payment was , but the funds have not been captured yet. Authorized payments expire after 7 days by default — capture before then or the authorization is released. You can extend this to up to 30 days by contacting support.
• Failed. The payment attempt was unsuccessful.
• Canceled. The payment was canceled before it was completed.
• Expired. The payment expired without being completed.
• Refunded. The full payment amount was refunded.
• Partially refunded. Only part of the payment amount was refunded.
• Paid out. A to the customer completed successfully — funds were sent from your MONEI balance. Applies only to PAYOUT transactions.

How a payment moves between statuses

A payment's status depends on how it's processed. There are three common flows.

Standard payment

The customer pays and the funds are right away. A captured payment can later be fully or partially refunded.

Authorize and capture

The funds are first and captured later. Once captured, the payment follows the same refund path as a standard payment.

Payout to a customer

A sends money from your MONEI balance to a customer — the reverse of a normal payment.

API status values

In the API, a payment's status is the value behind each dashboard label. Most match one-to-one; the two that differ are PENDING (shown as Started) and AUTHORIZED (shown as Uncaptured).
